Traditional vehicle communications have been mostly about mobile access from vehicle to the Internet, or to a highly instrumented environment. In the future, sensors will be embedded not only in the environment, but also in vehicles (video cameras, acoustic recorders, RFIDs, etc), extending, the environment to include mobile sensor platforms. From the traditional client (mobile) – server (Internet) model, Peer to Peer models are now emerging, to support distributed car to car applications such as navigation safety, content sharing (eg, Car Torrent, Ad Torrent) and network games. In this talk Dr.
Mario Gerla will focus on this emerging mobile sensor and P2P vehicular scenario. Dr.
Mario Gerla will discuss access to the massive information collected by cars in the “sensor grid”, including “Epidemic Dissemination” methods where each car “diffuses” the information to neighbor cars. We will also report on our experience with Car Torrent and Ad Torrent and with forensic investigation of crime scenes. This talk will be presented in
Room 4263, NCKU CSIE, PM 2:00~3:30, OCt. 3. 2008.
